Arizona Democratic Finance Director Resigns Following Controversial Video

Mark Holodnak, the finance director for the Democratic Organization representing Arizona’s 12th Legislative District, has stepped down from his role after a video of him confronting young women who were taking photos with ICE agents gained traction on social media.

The footage captures Holodnak taking selfies with federal agents in Phoenix and then turning to yell “you son of a bitch” at the girls as he walked away.

The incident occurred outside Zips Sports Grill, one of several locations that federal authorities raided recently, which sparked protests nearby, according to police reports. A local newspaper indicated that Holodnak was seen among protesters, using inappropriate language towards the young women, before ultimately apologizing and resigning from his position.

“I’m sorry for the way I expressed myself. My words do not reflect my true values or intentions,” Holodnak stated, expressing regret and specifically apologizing to the individuals featured in the video. He continued, “I don’t want my actions to overshadow the good work of LD 12. Therefore, I’ve decided to resign from the LD 12 Board of Directors, effective immediately,” before opting not to discuss the matter further.

Holodnak was also part of the executive committee for the Democratic Organization in Arizona’s 12th Congressional District. In light of his verbal attack, he also lost his position at HomeSmart, the real estate company where he worked.

HomeSmart released a statement acknowledging the situation: “We are aware of an incident involving one of our independent contractor agents exhibiting unacceptable behavior. This does not reflect the culture or values of HomeSmart, and this agent is no longer affiliated with our company.”
