Armed Man Arrested Near Trump Golf Course
An armed individual was taken into custody on August 2 at President Donald Trump’s California golf course, allegedly possessing Melania Trump’s schedule and sensitive details about U.S. Secret Service personnel.
Jeanine John Taele, 38, reportedly had over 200 pages of written material, which included schedules for the first lady and members of Trump’s Secret Service detail. These details emerged during a court hearing in Los Angeles County, as reported by The Associated Press.
According to the New York Post, prosecutors indicated that Taele had maintained seven notebooks with sketches and lists that detailed various aspects of Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes, including individual USSS schedules and notes about specific security personnel.
During the hearing, Los Angeles County Judge John Lonergan Jr. described the situation as “alarming,” particularly in today’s societal climate marked by increasing violence and deep political partisanship.
After a pretrial assessment revealed that Taele was not mentally fit for trial, the judge agreed to transfer the case to a mental health court.
Taele had been observed by undercover federal agents on the golf club grounds, taking photographs and appearing to monitor security preparations for Trump’s upcoming visit. When he was detained, deputies reported finding a loaded 16-round magazine in his pocket, as noted by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Authorities also found a loaded handgun and additional ammunition in his vehicle during a search.
While Taele declared he was there for a security detail for the State Department, subsequent investigations of his residence turned up an illegally modified rifle and a .45-caliber handgun, among other items. The FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force, along with the USSS and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, is currently investigating this matter.
Serving in the military, Taele will remain in custody until a hearing at Hollywood Mental Health Court set for September 9.
His public defender, A.J. Bayne, urged caution in interpreting his client’s intentions, emphasizing that Taele is a veteran with family support and that premature judgments could lead to misconceptions.
The Secret Service maintained that it does not comment on specific matters of protective intelligence but assured the public that it thoroughly investigates any potential threats to individuals under its protection.
Trump, commenting on the arrest, noted that being a consequential president comes with its own set of issues, referencing the concerns surrounding the incident. The White House and the Office of the First Lady have been approached for further comments regarding the situation.
