Man with a history of child abuse attempted to run over federal agents in Mexico.

Illegal immigrants from Mexico are accused of attempting to run over federal agents in Colorado.

Jose Mendes Chavez, 31, drove a vehicle that was used to attack U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in Colorado Springs. As of now, he is still at large. A passenger in the vehicle, Francisco Zapata Pacheco, was arrested on Thursday.

According to an ICE spokesperson, “As a result of their violent actions and to protect officers and agents at the scene, officers fired three shots at the car. The individuals fled and later left the vehicle behind.” Remarkably, no one was hurt in the incident, they added.

ICE also expressed concern regarding the Colorado Rapid Response Network (CRRN), a group that aims to counter ICE operations during immigrant raids. An ICE spokesman commented, “It’s nonsensical to see Colorado’s rapid response network defending foreigners who have attempted to harm children and officials. Our dedicated ICE officers are facing an 830% increase in assaults during operations, largely due to the spread of misinformation from activists.”

Mendes Chavez is described not as a mere victim but as someone misusing the system to attack federal officers. It appears he has a lengthy history; ICE noted he has been convicted multiple times for re-entering the United States illegally.

In August 2020, Mendes Chavez was convicted of reckless endangerment in Texas, leading to a one-year prison sentence. Earlier in January 2020, he faced charges of child abuse in Colorado. His past also includes a domestic violence conviction in Ohio back in July 2013, resulting in 180 days in prison.
