A man who entered the United States unlawfully and later obtained legal status has allegedly cast votes illegally in 15 elections, according to claims from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
The DHS informed Blaze News that agents from Homeland Security Investigations arrested Andres Garcia on October 6 after he faced two counts related to voting as a noncitizen.
“This should serve as a reminder to noncitizens considering voting: if you vote unlawfully, we will absolutely arrest you and bring charges,” a DHS official mentioned.
Garcia, a lawful permanent resident from Cuba—though not a citizen—was not permitted to participate in elections. He reportedly voted during both the 2022 and upcoming 2024 elections.
Interestingly, records show that he registered to vote back in 2004 in Cass County, Missouri, even before he gained legal status through the Obama administration, per DHS statements.
The agency further claimed that Garcia is suspected of illegally voting at least 15 times over the last 20 years. “Garcia, aware that he was not a U.S. citizen, fraudulently registered as one in 2004 and repeated this in 2013,” the DHS reported.
DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin commented on the case, saying, “This individual from Cuba has been apprehended and charged for voting illegally in several elections.” He also noted Garcia’s unlawful entry into the U.S. in 1969 and subsequent legal status granted by the Obama administration. “Thanks to the diligent work of HSI and our partners at the Department of Justice, this individual will now face consequences for his repeated electoral transgressions,” he added.
“Let this signal to all noncitizens: Voting unlawfully has serious repercussions. Only American citizens should decide who leads our country.”
The Department of Justice revealed on Monday that 16 individuals were charged with election-related offenses—including Garcia, who is described as an illegal alien, alongside others who had legal status.
After Garcia’s arrest, Rick Sabatini, Acting Special Agent in Charge of HSI Kansas City, echoed the importance of electoral integrity, stating, “Election integrity is essential. Those who knowingly violate federal voting laws erode public confidence in the democratic system, and they will be held accountable.”
