Mariners Fan Gives Historic Home Run Ball to Young Boy
Seattle Mariners supporters, along with baseball fans everywhere, have lauded Glenn Mutty Driscoll for a heartwarming gesture during a recent game. Driscoll caught a home run ball hit by Mariners slugger Cal Raleigh, marking a personal milestone for the player as it was his 60th home run of the season.
During the game against the Colorado Rockies at T-Mobile Park, Driscoll was met with cheers after he made the catch. Following a brief moment of celebration, he decided to pass the ball to Marcus Ruelos, a 12-year-old sitting nearby.
“It felt surreal,” Driscoll recounted. “Everything was happening so quickly. I just looked down and saw the kids, and I thought, well, he deserves it more than I do. It turned into such a sweet story.”
Ruelos’ father, Garan Lueros, described the moment on Facebook, expressing how surprised everyone was and noting how moved his son was by the act of kindness. “Marcus shed tears. We were all a bit shocked,” he shared.
Later, the father and son were invited to the reception area, where they were rewarded with an autographed bat in exchange for the ball. “I really want to thank him for this,” Lueros mentioned. “My son will always remember this kind act, and I hope he pays it forward in the future.”
The Mariners organization recognized Driscoll’s generosity by inviting him and his family to meet Raleigh before a subsequent game. Raleigh even signed the bat with a note of thanks, recognizing Driscoll’s thoughtful gesture.
In addition to the bat, Raleigh signed two baseballs for Lueros’ children and took a photo with them, further making the day special. Lueros reflected on the significance of this moment, saying, “It’s a milestone, and my son will cherish knowing that someone was kind enough to give him this ball.”
This exchange contrasts sharply with a recent incident during a game between the Phillies and Marlins, where a woman aggressively confronted another fan in an attempt to get a home run ball meant for his son. The differing reactions of fans in these two incidents have sparked discussions online about the nature of sportsmanship and kindness.
Overall, the Mariners’ recent series not only secured a playoff spot for the team—its first since 2001—but also highlighted the importance of community and goodwill in sports. Raleigh’s impressive achievement of hitting 60 home runs in a single season has added to the excitement surrounding the team and its fans.
