Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.) was found to have the highest net favorability rating among Democratic Party insiders rumored to be a potential running mate for Vice President Kamala Harris, the presumptive Democratic nominee. The poll released on Sunday.
But a majority of voters say they either don’t know or have no opinion about most of the vice presidential candidates.
in ABC News/Ipsos PollThe poll, conducted July 26 and 27, found that Mr Kerry had a 10-point favorability rating among Americans, with 22% viewing him favorably and 12% viewing him unfavorably. Additionally, 41% said they did not know Mr Kerry and 24% had no opinion.
Three Democrats came in second behind Kerry, with favorability ratings of four points each: Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro (17% favorable, 13% unfavorable), Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear (13% favorable, 9% unfavorable) and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg (29% favorable, 25% unfavorable).
Buttigieg and California Governor Gavin Newsom are the only Democrats that a majority of respondents knew about: 46% said they didn’t know about Buttigieg (27%) or had no opinion (19%), and 45% said they didn’t know about Newsom (26%) or had no opinion (19%).
However, Newsom’s favorability rating is lower than Buttigieg’s, at minus 12 points, with 21 percent viewing him favorably and 33 percent viewing him unfavorably.
The poll shows Harris’ favorability rating has increased by eight points since the last poll conducted a week ago. In the latest poll, her favorability rating was up one point, with 43% viewing her favorably and 42% viewing her unfavorably. Last week, 35% viewed her favorably.
In the poll, Harris also beat former President Trump’s -16 point favorability rating (36% favorable, 52% unfavorable) and President Biden’s -13 point favorability rating (37% favorable, 50% unfavorable).
The polls come as Ms Harris is solidifying her status as the party’s presumptive nominee, with much attention focused on who she will choose as her running mate. She has no significant challenger and Democrats are lining up to endorse her. She has also secured enough delegate support to secure the party’s nomination.
The poll was conducted July 26-27, 2024 among 1,200 adults and has a margin of error of +/- 3.0 percentage points.
