Glenn Jacobs Open to Senate Appointment if Blackburn Wins Governor’s Race
Former Knox County Mayor and WWE star Glenn Jacobs shared last Wednesday that he would consider taking Sen. Marsha Blackburn’s seat if she emerges victorious in the Tennessee governor’s race.
During an appearance on the “Fox News Rundown” podcast, Jacobs was posed a direct question regarding his potential interest in the Senate seat, amidst ongoing speculation about who might step in if Blackburn’s gubernatorial aspirations succeed.
Bill Melugin from Fox News asked, “Your name is mentioned as a possible successor in the Senate if Blackburn wins the governor’s race. Would you be interested in that?”
Jacobs, who is well-known as “Kane” from WWE Hall of Fame, didn’t outright confirm any plans regarding the position. Instead, he emphasized his current priority: supporting Blackburn’s campaign.
“I’m honored that people would think of me in that way. However, there’s still a gubernatorial race to win, and I believe Marsha’s going to do it. I’m actively involved in that,” Jacobs stated.
Blackburn aims to officially take office in January 2027 if she wins, at which point she would have the power to appoint an interim senator for her vacated seat.
Jacobs continued, “I’m her campaign treasurer, and I’ve been traveling with her. Right now, my focus is on making sure she becomes the next governor of Tennessee,” emphasizing the importance of Blackburn’s victory.
The current Tennessee Governor Bill Lee is limited by term, which ends in 2026. Blackburn’s campaign highlights economic growth, border security, and law enforcement support. She secured the Republican nomination in August.
Jacobs, who ended his second term as Knox County Mayor in September 2026, had at one point planned to run for governor himself but later opted to back Blackburn, transitioning into the role of her campaign treasurer, which has sparked rumors regarding a possible Senate appointment.
He did confirm, however, that if offered the position after Blackburn’s potential win, he would give it serious thought. “It would be a huge honor, so yes, I would consider it very seriously,” he remarked.
On a later podcast, Jacobs reiterated his willingness, noting that if Blackburn asked him, he “would do it.”
In discussing his experience as mayor, he reflected, “I loved serving in that role. It’s tough because you’re really in the spotlight and feel the pressure, but the impact you can make is invaluable.”
Blackburn is set to compete against Democratic candidate Jerri Green, a Memphis City Councilwoman, in the upcoming election on November 3. After her primary win, Blackburn received an endorsement from former President Donald Trump, who praised her capabilities and assured his support for her gubernatorial bid.
