“The Homicide Unit on Wednesday arrested and charged a suspect in connection with the shooting death of a roommate in Springdale. The suspect is Richard Benaud, 38, of Springdale. Domonique Scott Hayes, 27, is charged with manslaughter. ”
“On January 10, 2024, at approximately 12:30 p.m., officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 2800 block of Berrywood Lane. Officers located a deceased person inside a home suffering from gunshot wounds. “He was found dead. He was pronounced dead at the scene.” ”
fox news digital report Benaud did not call police until six hours after the altercation occurred. The altercation happened around 5:30 or 6 a.m.
According to documents obtained by WTTG, Benaud told authorities that her roommate entered her home “with a knife.” Mr Benaud said Mr Hayes, who had fallen asleep on the couch, was woken up by Mr Hayes making a “fuss” in the kitchen and the argument began.
Hayes then asked Benaud where the remote was, but Benaud ignored him.
Benaud reportedly had part of a blanket pulled over his head, and when he removed it he saw Hayes holding a knife. He immediately grabbed a handgun, shot Hayes, and rushed to the third floor.
Benaud claimed that he thought Hayes had not been hit because he did not see him injured. He then went back to sleep, the report said.
The indictment states Benaud then drove to a friend's house in Lanham to discuss what happened. He eventually went to a marijuana dispensary and purchased $50 worth of marijuana, documents said.
The report went on to say Benaud collected the fired casings and flushed them down the toilet, then swept the dust from the damage to the wall.
It was only after he told several people what had happened that he called the police. And they urged him to contact the authorities.
It is not clear whether Mr. Benaud has a lawyer.
