Mass Deportations Should ‘Start with 1 Million’

Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) said Sunday on ABC’s “This Week” that the Trump administration will begin mass deportations of 1 million people.

Anchor Jonathan Karl asked, “One of the proposals in your policy platform that you and Trump have talked about is mass deportations. Trump has said he’s going to deport the easy people, people who have committed crimes. He’s said he’s going to deport 15 to 20 million people, but how do you actually go about doing that?”

“We have to start with the fact that our southern border is wide open because our border chief has instituted a lot of open border policies,” Vance said.

Carl said, “You know she wasn’t a border patrol officer.”

“That’s what the media called her. She’s earned that title,” Vance said.

Karl asked, “Are you going to knock on doors and ask people for documents?”

“That’s the wrong attitude, right? We have 20 million illegal immigrants here. Let’s start with what’s achievable, and once we’ve done that, we go from there to what’s achievable. I think we’ll be pretty close to solving the illegal immigration problem if we deport a lot of the violent criminals and, frankly, make it harder for illegal workers to get hired. But President Trump is absolutely right. You can’t have a border unless you’re prepared to deport some people. I think it’s interesting that people are focusing on how to deport 18 million people. Let’s start with 1 million. That’s where Kamala Harris failed, and we can go from there,” Vance said.
