Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey, a Democrat, called on President Joe Biden to “carefully evaluate” whether to remain in the presidential race following his performance in last week’s debate.
in statement Healey on Friday praised Biden for “saving” American democracy in the 2020 presidential election, adding that he had “done a great job” during his term as president.
“President Biden saved our democracy in 2020 and has done an incredible job over the past four years,” Healey said in a statement. “I’m deeply grateful for his leadership, and I know he agrees that this is the most important election of our lifetimes.”

Healey added that Biden needs to decide “the best way forward,” and that whatever he decides, she will “do everything I can” to defeat Trump.
“In the coming days, I urge President Biden to listen to the American people and carefully evaluate whether he remains our best hope of defeating Donald Trump,” Healey said. “Whatever President Biden decides, I will do everything in my power to defeat Donald Trump.”
Healey’s comments came after he and other Democratic governors met virtually and in person with Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris on Wednesday. After the meetings, Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-Calif.), Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D-Mich.) and Gov. Roy Cooper (D-North Carolina) issued statements in support of Biden.

Speaking at a rally in Madison, Wisconsin on Friday, Biden vowed to “keep the campaign going” and “beat Donald Trump.”
