A Massachusetts congresswoman said Saturday that she and her family were the targets of bomb threats. This is the latest in a series of similar threats made against members of Congress from both sides of politics.
Democratic state Rep. Lori Trahan, who represents Lowell and other communities in the northwestern part of the state, said in a statement that authorities responded to a threat at the Westford residence.
“This morning I learned of a bomb threat aimed at my family and I,” Trahan said.
“We are grateful to the outstanding officers of the Westford Police Department who responded quickly and are currently working with the U.S. Capitol Police and Massachusetts State Police on this incident.
“This is a good time to state the obvious: The threat of violence and intimidation has no place in our country.”
Westford Police Lt. Michael Brault said state police found no evidence of a device at the scene, but the incident remains under investigation.

Last week, Rep. Seth Magaziner, D-Rhode Island, said similar false police reports had been made against at least five members of Connecticut's Democratic Congressional Caucus and at least 10 of President-elect Donald Trump's leading candidates. He said he was the victim of similar fake bomb threats targeting people. Congresswoman Elise Stefanik (R-New York) was nominated by President Trump to be the United States' ambassador to the United Nations.
