Tragically, a shooting incident in Pennsylvania resulted in multiple fatalities, including two children and a pregnant woman, on Friday evening.
Authorities arrived at the scene around 5 p.m. on the 700 block of Perry Street in Erie, responding to reports of gunfire, according to local news.
Upon arrival, officers found two women lying in the street, both suffering from fatal gunshot wounds.
The suspected shooter, armed with a handgun, had barricaded himself inside the home, leading to a standoff with a SWAT team.
During the stand-off, several shots were reportedly fired within the residence.
The gunman, whose identity has not been released, ultimately died from what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Following the standoff, police entered the home and discovered multiple victims throughout the house, including one who was pregnant at the time of the shooting.
Erie Police Chief Rick Lorah opted not to provide further details “out of respect for the victims.”
As of now, there is no information on the motive for the shooting or further details regarding the incident.
The connection between the gunman and the victims remains unclear.
This horrific scene has been labeled one of the worst in the city’s history by police officials.
“I want to be honest with our community; this is one of the most challenging and heartbreaking situations our officers and investigators have ever faced,” Lorah shared during a press conference.
He noted that the loss of life is profoundly devastating and the circumstances involved are deeply troubling.
While confirming the shooter’s death, Lorah did not specify the number of victims; however, reports indicate that nine people have lost their lives in this tragic event.
“From the information we have right now, there is no ongoing threat to the public. Our thoughts are with the victims, their families, and all those affected by this tragedy. It’s hard to put into words the impact of such a significant loss of life,” Lorah concluded.
