Massie: FBI warned his staff to cooperate on pipe-bomb investigation or face consequences

FBI Threatens Rep. Thomas Massie’s Staff Over Jan. 6 Investigation

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) has claimed that FBI agents issued a threat to initiate a criminal investigation against one of his employees due to ongoing inquiries related to the Jan. 6 pipe bomb incident.

Massie shared this information during an interview on Matt Kibbe’s podcast, “Free the People,” stating that an FBI official warned that they would pursue a criminal case against one of his staff members if certain behaviors did not change.

“Even he knew it didn’t look good. It was probably illegal,” Massie quoted the official while discussing the situation with investigative reporter Steve Baker.

While Massie did not disclose the name of the person who made the threat, he did mention that he filed a complaint with FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino.

In his complaint, Massie expressed, “You’re threatening one of my people. If you don’t get what you want, one of your associates will be investigated by the FBI.” Bongino reportedly responded, “I’ll take care of that,” acknowledging the implications of the threat.

Subsequently, Massie received a non-apology text from the official saying, “‘Sorry if I offended you,'” which he interpreted as insincere.

Massie remains one of the key lawmakers pushing for clarity on the pipe bombs found behind the Capitol on January 6, one discovered at 12:43 p.m., with another found 22 minutes later near the Democratic National Committee (DNC) building. During the same interview, he indicated he is “99% certain” that some Capitol Police officers played a role in placing the explosive devices, referencing recent findings from Blaze News.

“We went from being 90% sure to 95% certain that some of the Capitol Police were involved, and now with this new report, we’re at 99%,” he remarked.

His comments align with earlier Blaze News reporting on a former Capitol Police officer linked through forensic evidence to the suspected bomber and a subsequent discovery of a second device by plainclothes officers. Assistant Police Chief Ashan Benedict, named by Massie for obstructing the investigation, resigned recently.

Massie expressed disappointment over the apparent lack of progress from FBI Director Kash Patel compared to the former director, Christopher Wray, despite Patel’s claims of impending substantial developments.

A CBS report indicated that the FBI had cleared an officer based on an “alibi” that included video footage of her playing with a puppy at the time the bomb was planted, which apparently was consistent with forensic analyses of the suspect’s gait.

In additional revelations, a video showed a suspect, identified as a hoodie-clad individual, possibly planting one of the bombs near the DNC. The footage, mixed with findings by independent investigators, points to lapses in the surveillance system, with key cameras failing to capture essential moments.

Strange Meetings and Ongoing Investigations

Massie found a recent meeting with Capitol Police to be odd. While he was not able to meet with the “backpack guy,” who reportedly discovered the pipe bomb, he did encounter a partner with a handler who frequently interrupted during questioning.

Massie likened this meeting to “the strangest meeting in the world,” stressing that direct interviews with officers should be conducted and properly documented.

Notably, surveillance operations targeting a Person of Interest were abruptly halted by the FBI, which has now triggered whistleblower disclosures alleging improper actions by the Bureau. Massie highlighted these inconsistencies, expressing frustration over the lack of accountability.

Massey mentioned a warning received from a whistleblower’s attorney about potential retaliation from the FBI against individuals who come forward about the investigation’s handling.

In a tweet, Bongino denied any claims of malicious intent to identify whistleblowers, referring to Massie’s statements as unwarranted.
