A violent fight broke out at midfield between the University of North Carolina Tar Heels (UNC) and the North Carolina State University Wolfpack after the victorious and visiting Wolfpack attempted to plant a flag on UNC's turf.
Wolfpack safety DK Kaufman expected to receive a North Carolina flag from a cheerleader and plant it at midfield. But UNC wide receiver JJ Jones ran up to the NC State players, snatched the flag, and threw it onto the seats.
Then it was on.
Coaches and players from both teams rushed in and immediately began fighting.
The scene mirrored the chaotic events earlier in the day when the visiting underdog Michigan Wolverines planted a flag in Ohio State's Block O center after their fourth straight victory over the Buckeyes.
Several police officers had to intervene and a number of players were pepper sprayed during the scuffle.
NC State defeated UNC 35-30. This game was also head coach Mack Brown's last game at UNC.
