Mayor Bass Attributes Riots to ICE Raids

Immigrant Raids in Los Angeles Spark Controversy

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass (D) has claimed that the recent immigrant raids in the city were directly linked to unrest including riots and looting that erupted last week.

During a press conference, Bass emphasized that until Friday, “everything was peaceful” in Los Angeles and elsewhere. She noted that conditions changed dramatically with the arrival of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.

She further suggested that the subsequent violence was somehow instigated by the White House, framing it as part of a broader experiment by the federal government. “We’re not really sure why this is happening, but it feels like they want to test how much control they can exert over local authorities,” Bass remarked.

“Just a week ago, everything was calm here,” she asserted. “Things began to spiral out of control when the attack happened on Friday, leading to the chaos in Los Angeles and beyond.”

According to reports, ICE agents executed several search warrants in the Home Depot parking lot, leading to over 40 arrests at two locations affiliated with Ambience Apparel.

Investigations revealed that about twenty individuals were detained outside Home Depot near MacArthur Park, with federal agents also targeting the apparel offices downtown.

In a series of protests, some demonstrators engaged in violent actions, like throwing rocks at Border Patrol vehicles, which resulted in the federal buildings being damaged and vehicles set ablaze. In response, President Trump deployed 2,000 members of the California National Guard to help restore order.

Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell indicated that the Department of Defense was mobilizing an additional 2,000 California National Guard personnel. “This is part of the president’s directive to support ICE and ensure the safety of federal law enforcement,” he explained.

Democratic figures, including California Governor Gavin Newsom and former Vice President Kamala Harris, have criticized the deployment as a provocative and dangerous escalation. Harris described the National Guard’s involvement as an “intentionally inflammatory” maneuver.

Furthermore, Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) reported a troubling scene where rioters were attacking police vehicles and setting things on fire, adding to the already tense situation.
