Mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani in NYC declines to sign resolutions that condemn the Holocaust and support Israel.

Socialist lawmaker Zohran Mamdani opted not to endorse two resolutions acknowledging Israel and the Holocaust. This comes as state legislators seek to represent cities with significant Jewish populations, the largest outside Israel.

This week, Mamdani abstained from a resolution commemorating the 77th anniversary of Israel. He also declined to support a measure last year that condemned the Holocaust.

Every year, thousands of resolutions are proposed, many of which serve as inconsistent gestures of respect towards the Jewish community and Israel.

Recently, Congress recognized Fort Drum, coinciding with a visit from members of the U.S. Army to the state capitol.

Throughout his time in office, Mamdani has signed a total of 88 similar non-binding resolutions.

Engaging Jewish voters has emerged as a significant concern for politicians in both the Democratic primary and general elections. Figures like Andrew Cuomo and current Mayor Eric Adams are actively seeking the backing of this demographic.

The decision by DSA lawmakers to reject the resolutions, initially reported by Politico, comes shortly after gaining backing from former U.S. representative Jamal Bowman, who lost his position due to his pro-Palestinian stance.
