There are two reasons why the visible influx of illegal immigrants has apparently declined.
First, Mr. Mayorkas is paying Mexico to stabilize the flow of migrants, which generates politically damaging coverage on the evening news.

But Biden’s coalition government has a completely different perspective. The policies adopted by Mr. Mayorkas and Mr. Biden therefore seek to smuggle vast numbers of immigrants into the United States by cutting a semi-legal route through a forest of complex and contradictory laws. “We are enforcing the law,” Mayorkas told NPR, even though the country has helped import nearly 10 million legal, illegal and semi-legal immigrants since 2021.

Not surprisingly, Mayorkas was impeached by the House in February.
Mr. Inskeep cannot understand Mr. Mayorkas’ ruthless policies. That’s partly because Mr. Inskeep’s allies in the established media and academia don’t recognize it or name it. Mr. Inskeep repeatedly allowed Mr. Mayorkas to dodge questions, usually by changing the subject to shift blame elsewhere.
