McDonald’s CEO Faces Backlash Over Burger Video
McDonald’s CEO recently found himself the target of online mockery after sharing a video in which he awkwardly attempts to eat the fast food chain’s new large menu items, referred to as “products.” This odd choice of words didn’t go unnoticed.
In the clip shared last month on social media, CEO Chris Kempczinski was seen hesitating as he sampled the “Big Arch” burger, set to debut in the US this Tuesday.
“I really love this product. It’s so delicious. I’m going to taste it now and maybe have it for lunch, just to be sure,” he said, sounding a bit unsure.
The Big Arch Burger is a hefty sandwich featuring two quarter-pound patties, a distinctive Big Arch sauce, lettuce, crispy onions, and pickles. However, Kempczinski seemed perplexed while trying to tackle the giant sandwich, remarking, “I didn’t even know how to attack it,” before awkwardly bringing the burger closer to his mouth.
“Mmm, that’s very tasty. That’s a big bite for the Big Arch,” he added, taking a surprisingly modest bite while pointing the burger at the camera.
Social media users wasted no time criticizing Kempczinski’s unusual relationship with the burger, wondering if he really enjoyed the experience. One comment pointed out, “The man’s aura screams kale salad,” while another quipped, “This was the most unnatural thing I’ve ever seen.” Critics even questioned why he appeared hesitant to take a bite.
Comments also scrutinized his use of “corporate jargon” when addressing customers. One user ominously noted, “Calling food a ‘product’ is scary,” and another joked, “He never eats McDonald’s.” This particular comment received a lot of traction online.
The Big Arch Burger had made waves in Canadian and European markets back in 2024, eventually becoming a staple on menus in the UK and Ireland.
For those curious, the new burger clocks in at 1,020 calories, roughly equivalent to a full Big Mac meal, including fries and a medium Coke.
