McMahon says she 'wholeheartedly' agrees with Trump plan to abolish Education Department

Linda McMahon, the candidate for President Trump, who leads the Department of Education, said she “heart-in-the-fly” plans to abolish federal agencies.

The statement came in response to questions raised by Democrats Andy Kim (New Jersey) and Elizabeth Warren (Massachusetts) ahead of the full Senate vote on her confirmation.

“President Trump believes that he can abolish Washington's bureaucracy and return education to the states that it belongs,” McMahon wrote to the senator. “I sincerely support you and agree to this mission.”

The statement is no surprise. Because McMahon revealed at her confirmation hearing that the department should be abolished and that its core task would move to other agencies.

Last week, McMahon was confirmed by a Senate committee on health, education, labor and pensions in a partisan vote, sending her to a full Senate vote and becoming department head.

She could be confirmed if Republicans control the upper chamber.

“Linda McMahon has revealed her absolute loyalty to President Trump, with her highest responsibility being complete.

“Her blind loyalty is dangerous as the administration's illegal funding freeze threatens already scarce resources due to schools and critical programs. Education is the foundation of our society. Instead of treating it as a group, the Trump administration is trying to demonize it and change it in ways that make many children vulnerable,” he continued.
