Meta’s AI Adoption Goals for Employees Revealed

Meta Inc., under Mark Zuckerberg’s leadership, has outlined clear targets for its employees regarding the use of AI tools, according to some internal documents obtained by Business Insider. The company aims to become what Zuckerberg describes as an “AI-native” organization, emphasizing this through specific objectives for various teams, particularly in software development tasks.

The documents indicate that Meta employees created a framework to assess AI adoption goals from different departments, setting targets for late 2025 and into 2026. It illustrates how tech companies are trying various strategies—like performance reviews and competitive metrics—to enhance AI tool integration among their workforce.

One notable aim is from the core creative experience team, which wants 65% of its engineers to generate at least 75% of their committed code using AI assistance by mid-2026. The term “committed code” refers to any code that is saved and tracked in a version control system.

Additionally, a machine learning-focused group within Meta has a goal for February 2026 to see 50-80% of their code produced with AI assistance. However, a senior engineering manager noted that this goal is not being tracked through formal metrics, which raises questions about its viability.

Other goals outlined include an 80% adoption of AI tools, like DevMate and Metamate, among mid-senior level engineers across major platforms such as Messenger, WhatsApp, and Facebook. Importantly, this focuses on usage rather than just code output.

Another target specifies that 55% of code changes from software engineers within the central product team need to be assisted by AI. However, it’s not entirely clear how these metrics relate to employee performance evaluations.

A Meta spokesperson reiterated to Business Insider that embracing AI is a significant priority. They pointed out that the company is shifting its focus towards using AI to enhance employee productivity instead of just measuring usage statistics.

Zuckerberg has been quite eager to actualize his vision of an AI-centered Meta. Business Insider also previously reported that employee performance evaluations are being linked to AI utilization, with staff now using a proprietary AI bot for peer reviews.

Recently, Meta has reorganized certain roles in its Reality Labs division, bestowing new titles such as AI Builder and AI Pod Lead. This change aligns with the company’s ongoing trend of creating smaller teams and adopting a flatter organizational structure.

A memo regarding this shift explains that the ultimate aim is to significantly enhance engineering productivity and product quality, indicating a fundamental overhaul of operations and team support structures.

Moreover, Meta’s CTO, Andrew Bosworth, announced he would spearhead an initiative called AI for Work, designed to expedite the internal integration of AI tools. This was laid out in a memo seen by Business Insider, first reported by the Wall Street Journal.

As Meta ramps up its AI endeavors, it coincides with workforce restructuring, having recently laid off numerous employees across Reality Labs and other divisions. This restructuring appears aimed at realigning the company’s focus on AI priorities.

The broader implications of AI at Meta signal a noteworthy shift in the labor landscape, as discussed in Winton Hall’s bestseller.
