Operated by Facebook, Instagram, and other platforms meta platform (meta) was down for many users on Tuesday due to what the social media company called a technical issue.

Downdetector, a website that tracks outages, received a surge of hundreds of thousands of reports around 10 a.m. ET Tuesday morning from users who were unable to access either Facebook or Instagram. News coverage slowed within an hour. The company announced that the issue was resolved around noon ET.
“Earlier today, technical issues made it difficult to access some of our services,” Meta spokesperson Andy Stone said. I have written By posting on X (formerly Twitter). “We have resolved the issue as quickly as possible for everyone affected and apologize for any inconvenience caused.”
Downdetector also showed threads and Messenger app outages earlier in the day.
Meta did not immediately respond to IBD’s request for comment on the exact cause of the failure.
Meta stocks appear unmoved by suspension
The company’s last major failure occurred in 2021. Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and other services went down for several hours on October 4 of the same year. The company later explained that the outage was caused by an incorrect configuration change to the routers it uses to coordinate traffic between its data centers.
Meanwhile, Meta’s decision to provide updates to users through X was not ignored by X owner Elon Musk. Musk remains at odds with Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg.
“If you’re reading this post, it’s because our servers are working properly,” Musk said. I wrote to X, That’s because Facebook and Instagram users were still experiencing an outage.
On the stock market today, Meta stock is down 1.25% to 491.96 in recent moves. Stocks were already falling before the power outages were reported.
