Juan Soto's free agency has grabbed headlines across the country this MLB offseason, and the Saturday Night Live staff was having fun with it, considering both teams in New York are in the midst of negotiations.
The result was an offense that ignored the New York Mets' style.
Dana Carvey reprized her role as the “church lady” who has a “church chat” with Soto, played by Marcello Hernandez.

Hernandez, who played as Soto, also wore a Celsius cap while wearing a question mark on his white T-shirt, which the 26-year-old superstar announced last month as baseball fans were crying out his free agent decision. It's an ode to the teased announcement.
During the conversation, Soto said the team he expected to “make me the best offer” was the New York Yankees.
However, Church Lady's next comment ultimately led to a jab at the Mets.

“As a Christian, I have to ask you: Why not spend your time and money helping the poor and disadvantaged?” asked a woman in the church.
“That's right,” False Soto replied. “Maybe I'll sign with the Mets.”
Soto was reportedly offered $700 million, and the Church Lady told the fake Soto that “money is the root of all evil.”

“Well, if that were true, I'd be the most evil baseball player in the world,” Fake Soto said, and the audience erupted in laughter.
As of Saturday night, new york post Both the Yankees and Mets have upped their offers for Soto to “in the range of $710 million to $730 million,” which is more than the amount the Los Angeles Dodgers gave Shohei Ohtani this offseason. It is reported that the amount is higher.
Ohtani's record contract, worth $700 million, including $680 million in deferrals, changed the entire landscape of how MLB stars are signed going forward.
But the Yankees and Mets aren't the only ones interested in Soto beyond next season.
