Mexico’s President Sheinbaum Files Charges After Public Incident

Claudia Sheinbaum, the President of Mexico, has decided to pursue criminal charges against a man who bypassed her security and inappropriately touched her in a public setting in Mexico City.

Speaking at a news conference on Wednesday, Sheinbaum expressed her feelings about the incident, stating, “I have decided to file a complaint. This is what I have lived, and this is what women have to live with.”

The unsettling encounter occurred during a public event on Tuesday afternoon when Sheinbaum interacted with attendees. A viral video shows a man approaching her from behind, attempting to kiss her and make unwanted advances. This lasted only moments until an assistant confronted him. However, he attempted to get too close to her a second time after that.

What has raised eyebrows is that Sheinbaum’s security team seemed to take no action against the man during the incident. This situation has sparked significant debate in Mexico, particularly in light of a recent event where a mayor was attacked during a public gathering. Just last week, the mayor of Uruapan, Michoacán was shot several times by a gunman who managed to get close to him despite heavy security.

In a follow-up investigation, it was revealed that 14 National Guardsmen were assigned to protect the mayor, yet the assassin was still able to approach him and carry out the shooting.
