The Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) claimed that a Mexican National Guard convoy shot at two female political candidates in Jalisco state.
The incident occurred this week in Villa Purificación, a small town in the mountainous region of Jalisco, northwest of the popular beach area of Manzanillo. Mexico’s federal government has not released any information about the incident, but PRI reports that two candidates for city commission were riding in a vehicle with three others when a military vehicle pulled up behind them. He claimed he started shooting. Officials claimed the women were nervous and did not pull over.

The driver of the car was injured by National Guard gunfire and was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. The other people in the car were uninjured. They were not arrested or detained, PRI said.
In the aftermath, PRI is calling on the federal and state governments to investigate. The party also seeks protection for its candidates.
As reported by Breitbart Texas, Mexico’s current election season has been filled with bloodshed, with dozens of candidates and political figures shot or killed so far. Mexico is expected to hold a highly contested presidential election and numerous other local and state elections this summer. The election campaign is broadly divided into two areas: the political party founded by Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador leads a handful of smaller parties, while the PRI, PAN (National Action Party), and PRD (Revolutionary Democratic Party). Although the three main opposition parties have different political ideologies, they worked together to defeat Morena.
