Casey Hintz, a sports reporter from WPLG Local 10 in South Florida, offered her apologies on Monday after a Scottish fan unleashed a slew of profanities during a live report in Miami.
The Tartan Army made quite a stir in Miami as they geared up for Wednesday’s Group C match against Brazil, following their energetic takeover of Boston leading up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
“We love Miami…and that damn Scotland, too!” one enthusiastic supporter yelled while seizing Hintz’s microphone.
Warning: Graphic language
As the noise escalated, Hintz swiftly pulled the microphone back. Yet, the fan persisted, repeating his apologies while grabbing the mic again.
More Scottish fans gathered around Hintz as she continued her live segment near Lawndepot Park, home of the Miami Marlins.
“No Scotland, no party!” another fan cheered, raising his fist in the air.
Hintz addressed the situation, saying, “Of course, I apologize to everyone for the few drops here,” referencing the foul language. “These people drink all day long.”
She mentioned that about 25,000 Scottish fans were anticipated for Monday’s game, where the Texas Rangers faced off against the Marlins, securing a 4-3 victory.
Hintz remarked, “Many of them don’t even have that [the plane] planned. They’re just waiting until Scotland plays in this tournament. They’re really just thankful to be welcomed here in America.”
Earlier in the month, Scottish soccer fans made headlines for their lively visit to Boston during the tournament. Boston Beer Co. had to arrange emergency deliveries as the Tartan Army consumed four times the usual beer stock seen during big holidays like the Fourth of July.
According to Billy Decain from Sam Adams Boston Taproom, “I’ve never seen anything like this,” he stated to NBC Boston.
In matches leading up to this event, Scotland played against Haiti on June 13, winning 1-0, but then lost 1-0 to Morocco at Boston Stadium on June 19.
