Burrata Salad and a Shooting: A Memorable White House Correspondents’ Dinner
Michael Glanz, a prominent agent at Creative Artists Agency, gained attention recently for his calm demeanor during the chaotic moments of the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner. While others panicked, he remained seated, enjoying a burrata salad even as chaos unfolded around him.
Reports suggested that as a gunman entered the hotel and shots were fired, President Donald Trump, Vice President J.D. Vance, and others were quickly evacuated. Glanz, however, stayed put, and his actions were captured in viral videos that circulated online.
“I’m a New Yorker,” Glanz explained when asked about his nonchalant reaction to the turmoil. “We live amidst constant noise and commotion. I wasn’t frightened; I actually wanted to see the Secret Service’s swift response.” It seems he was simply unfazed by the situation, drawing attention for not following the crowd to the floor.
Some questioned his decision to remain seated, wondering why he didn’t take cover like others in the room. Glanz offered a couple of personal reasons. He has a bad back and felt it would be unsafe for him to go to the floor. Additionally, he expressed concerns about hygiene, especially in a formal outfit. “I just couldn’t bring myself to be on the dirty Hilton floor in a new tuxedo,” he noted.
Christiane Amanpour, a CNN journalist, acknowledged Glanz in a social media post, calling him a “super cool agent” who maintains his composure during crises. She expressed relief that everyone managed to leave the event safely.
Amidst this, it’s worth noting that the shooting incident was serious. Authorities arrested a 31-year-old man from California, accused of firing shots, as investigations continue to determine the motive behind the act.
This particular dinner was significant as it marked President Trump’s first attendance during his presidency, and the backdrop of history loomed large, reminiscent of a past assassination attempt on President Reagan. Yet, in the midst of such gravity, Glanz’s burrata salad moment became a curious focus of the evening.
