Michael Whatley: Gas Prices Would Be Far Higher If Trump Hadn't Released American Energy

Republican Senate Candidate Michael Whatley Discusses Gas Prices

During a recent broadcast, Republican Senate candidate Michael Whatley suggested that gas prices could have been significantly higher if it weren’t for President Trump’s efforts to unleash U.S. energy, which he claims had been restricted under the Biden administration.

Whatley, alongside host Mike Slater, talked about growing public frustration regarding high gas prices. They observed how Democrats might exploit this issue in the run-up to the midterm elections, despite the fact that gas prices peaked in the summer of 2022 when Joe Biden served as president.

“The only reason gas prices aren’t soaring like they were during Biden’s era is because of what this president has done in terms of American energy,” Whatley stated, emphasizing that increased domestic oil production and refining have helped mitigate prices.

While acknowledging that gas prices remain elevated compared to six months ago, Whatley pointed out that they are still lower than during Biden’s administration. He expressed that, yes, current prices are unfairly high.

“I share the sentiment about high gas prices, but they’re not as inflated as they were under Biden. I often ask folks if they support Iran having nuclear weapons. Most say no. This president is actively working to prevent that, and I believe many in North Carolina back him in this effort.”

Whatley’s opponent, former Governor Roy Cooper (D), is among those looking to benefit politically from rising fuel costs. However, Whatley highlighted Cooper’s history of advocating for green energy policies that he claims led to increased energy costs for North Carolinians.

“Under Cooper’s administration, he’s heavily pushed a green energy agenda while raising families’ energy expenses. Plus, healthcare costs have surged by 57 percent. This is simply unacceptable,” Whatley argued.

He continued, “Cooper has vetoed multiple tax cuts and has shown a willingness to keep North Carolinians paying significantly more in taxes come tax day.” Whatley asserts that his campaign will deliver a conservative voice to the Senate, contrasting his approach with Cooper’s policies.

“If chosen, I will advocate for North Carolinians, unlike Cooper, who seems more aligned with interests from states like Illinois and California,” he remarked, reiterating his commitment to conservative values.

Reflecting on the broader political landscape, Whatley noted, “Trump effectively highlighted the differences between his vision for America and Biden’s. Many do not wish to follow the same trajectory Biden and Harris have set.” He concluded by suggesting that Cooper would support the Democrats’ controversial policies which, in his view, could lead to further inflation and weakened national standing.
