Michigan Dem launches anti-EV ad in bid for Senate race after voting against a bipartisan pushback on mandates

Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich.) slams electric cars. He recently voted against a bill aimed at blocking swing state Senate seats that would require him to run for a swing state Senate seat.

A Democratic lawmaker running for an open U.S. Senate seat in Michigan this term has released a new ad opposing mandatory sales of electric vehicles.

In the ad, Slotkin says, “No one should tell us what to buy, and no one is going to force us to do anything.” The screen also reads, “No electric vehicle mandate. ' can be seen written.

Slotkin also said there are no EV charging stations near where she lives in Michigan, and she doesn't own an electric car herself.

“I don't own an electric car because I live on a dirt road and I'm not near a charging station,” Slotkin says in the new ad. “You drive at your command, no one else's.”

Despite Slotkin's vocal opposition to EV mandates, he recently voted against the Biden administration's bill to block new car sales mandates.

In September, a bipartisan group of House members passed the Congressional Review Act, introduced by Republican Michigan Rep. John James, to block the new rules.

The campaign of Mr. Slotkin's Republican opponent, Rep. Mike Rogers, responded to the recent ad.

“Mr. Slotkin has voted three times, including last month, for the EPA and liberal states to ban gas-powered cars manufactured in Michigan, and signed secret agreements to help Chinese companies steal Michigan auto jobs. , Harris fully supported the job-destroying EV mandate,'' Rogers Senate Communications Director Chris Gustafson told Fox. “Just like EV, no one will accept her lies.”

But Slotkin voted against passage, breaking with the eight Democrats who voted for the bill.

“Elissa Slotkin is a sick woman who lied to Michigan voters about where she lives as a small business owner and farmer,” NRSC spokeswoman Maggie Aboud said in a statement. He's a liar,” he said. “Mr. Slotkin is trying to claim he doesn’t support an EV mandate after repeatedly voting to ban gas-powered cars.”
