Michigan MAGA supporters continue to favor Trump despite rising prices and the Iran conflict.

Support for Trump Remains Strong Among Michigan Voters

PORT HURON, Michigan – Despite rising gas prices and grocery costs, many supporters of former President Donald Trump in Michigan are remaining loyal. A group of nearly 20 voters waited for hours to attend a Trump rally in this lakeside city, expressing their commitment to Republican candidates in the upcoming midterm elections. They generally view Democrats as “socialists.”

Carol Mocan from Warren, Michigan, shared, “He has our best interests at heart. He loves our country and he is doing the right things for us to get back on track.”

With the elections approaching, Republicans are facing historical challenges; typically, the incumbent party loses seats during midterms. Additionally, they’re grappling with rising inflation, which many attribute to an unpopular war in Iran and Trump’s declining approval ratings in broader polls.

The latest Fox News national poll shows Trump at a low 36% approval rating, yet among those who identify as MAGA voters, his support remains an impressive 95%.

Bay City resident James Blake remarked, “I know that Trump is always out for America’s interests first. And that’s what I really like about him.” Meanwhile, Linda Taggart from Marysville suggested, “These high prices are short term pain for long term gain… We see the long-term goal and we support that.”

Residents like Bob Kemp from Port Huron feel that Trump is directing the country back on course after four years under Joe Biden. He mentioned, “whenever you’re fixing something, it always gets worse before it gets better.”

Michael Bacheller, also from Port Huron, believes current affordability issues won’t sway his vote. “I think it’s kind of a small price that we have to pay temporarily,” he said, expressing agreement with Trump’s approach.

On the topic of blaming Trump for high prices, Judith Troy responded with, “yes and no.” She acknowledged the necessity of tough decisions that lead to increasing costs but feels it’s for a good cause.

During his rally, Trump claimed, “we are ensuring that Iran will never have, ever have, ever, ever a nuclear weapon,” a point that resonates strongly with his supporters.

James Blake also stated that Trump is facing down threats from Iran, adding that, “He’s taken the fight to the terrorists over there.” Carol Mocan believes addressing Iran was necessary, saying that “no one else has done it for a long time.”

Ken Gunnels from Clio expressed concern about the risks posed by Iran, saying, “If a nuclear bomb went off in one of our major cities, I don’t think any of us would have any idea the repercussions.” His sentiment echoes a view shared by many of the voters.

Though the economy and the war are significant topics, immigration remains a top concern for others. Burtchville’s Steve Scouten emphasized the importance of strict immigration policies, stating, “If you’re here illegally, expect a knock on your door from ICE.” His friend, Bacheller, added that immigration should be a focal point for Trump.

James Blake continued, mentioning Trump’s advocacy for issues such as keeping men out of women’s sports and halting taxes on certain incomes, which he considers vital for his family. “It’s all about being American,” said Port Huron resident Rolande Debell, voicing her support for Trump.

Interestingly, none of the MAGA supporters interviewed showed any interest in voting for Democrats. Judith Troy expressed her discontent with their beliefs, while Carol Mocan criticized Democrats for being disconnected from regular people, prioritizing their careers instead.

James Blake voiced a firm stance against socialism, stating, “I’m not in the business of socialism. I don’t think that’s a good way to go.” Even Steve Scouten, who once identified as a Democrat, declared he would never return, citing their shift too far left.
