The law was enacted in 1953 but made exceptions for counties with populations under 130,000.

Section 435.251 of Michigan Public Law No. 66 of 1953 provides that it is unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to engage in the business of buying, selling, trading or exchanging any motor vehicle, new, used or pre-owned, or to offer to buy, sell, trade or exchange, or to participate in any negotiations or attempt to buy, sell, trade or exchange any motor vehicle or any title thereto or any document relating thereto, on the first day of the week, commonly known as Sunday.
