Middle East crisis update: Over 50 dead in Israeli attacks on Gaza as Trump’s Gulf visit goes on

Trump Visits the Middle East Amid Heavy Bombings in Gaza

In a series of airstrikes overnight, Gaza’s southern city of Khan Younis experienced attack after attack, resulting in over 50 fatalities on what marked the second consecutive night of intense bombing. According to the Associated Press, a local cameraman reported witnessing ten airstrikes, as multiple bodies were brought to the morgue of Nasser Hospital, which confirmed that at least 54 people had died.

Among the deceased was Hasan Samour, a journalist for Al Araby TV, who tragically lost his life alongside eleven family members during a strike in Khan Younis.

This escalation came after a deadly Wednesday that saw at least 70 people killed in similar airstrikes across northern and southern Gaza.

As this turmoil unfolded, President Donald Trump was engaged in a trip to the Middle East, focusing on Gulf nations but not including Israel in his itinerary.

The situation in Gaza has intensified over the past three months, with nearly half a million Palestinians facing severe food shortages. The Integrated Food Security Stage Classification has classified the hunger crisis as critical for this population.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed earlier this week to escalate military actions in the ongoing conflict against Hamas.

In other developments:

  • President Trump visited a U.S. base in the Middle East, aiming to reject past American interventions while concurrently engaging with Qatari business leaders before heading to Abu Dhabi.

  • Human Rights Watch has voiced concerns over an Israeli strategy that could displace hundreds of thousands of Gazans, urging the international community to oppose such plans.

  • A pregnant Israeli woman was fatally shot during an attack in the occupied West Bank; however, doctors were able to save her fetus, which is reportedly in stable condition.
