Migrant accused of murdering Rachel Morin to face mom of 5’s family in court

The much-anticipated trial begins this week due to illegal immigrants accused of murdering 37-year-old Rachel Morin, the Maryland mother of five who were killed along a hiking trail.

The selection of ju judges was scheduled to begin Tuesday at Harford National Circuit Court in Bel Air, Maryland, before Judge Yolanda Curtin.

Victor Antonio Martinez Hernandez, 23, of El Salvador, is charged with the brutal rape and murder of Morin, found on Bel Air's MA & PA trail in August 2023.

Crime shocked the community and highlighted the failure of the Biden administration's border policy.

Randle Fris, family lawyer for Morin, Baltimore's managing partner in US law, told Fox News Digital that the selection of ju judges begins Tuesday and is expected to take up to three days, with the trial expected to last around two weeks.

“The Morins have been waiting for this moment for a long time,” Rice said. “This trial marks the beginning of justice they had sought since the day Rachel was taken away from them. They are ready to face the difficult days ahead with strength and hope.”

Morin, 37, was reported to her boyfriend that she went missing after she went on a run on the pedestrian trail at Bel Air, a quiet, typical safe town about 28 miles northeast of Baltimore.

Her body was found near the trail the next day.

In February, police released a new sketch of Martinez-Hernandez.

The sketch came after DNA evidence tied Martinez Hernandez to the location of an invasion in a Los Angeles home. Police were led to a single DNA match of unidentified Hispanic men due to the use of the combined DNA index system.

The Los Angeles Police Department gathered hats left at the site of the home's invasion in March 2023, becoming violent, and injured a 9-year-old girl and her mother.

The suspect allegedly broke into the house in the middle of the night and attacked the family inside before he was kicked out. Surveillance video footage shows a shirtless man passing through the front door.

“I'm very emotional, so I'm going to keep this short,” Morin's mother, Patricia Morin, said previously. “I would like to take this time to thank all law enforcement for all their efforts.

“They really looked after our family and our daughter,” she said. “They were going to work hard and find the person who killed her.”

Marcus Jenkins, a court-appointed lawyer appointed by Martinez-Hernandez, did not immediately return a request for comment.
