A Haitian immigrant accused of raping a 15-year-old girl several months ago has been released on $500 bail in the sanctuary state of Massachusetts.
Corey Alvarez, a 26-year-old immigrant from Haiti, was arrested and charged with rape of a child under the age of 16 in Rockland, Massachusetts, in March.
Police said Alvarez was living in a taxpayer-funded migrant shelter when he invited a 15-year-old girl into his room. The girl told police Alvarez promised to help her open the app on her tablet, but raped her when she tried to stop him.
Alvarez was being held without bail in Plymouth County, Massachusetts, after Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents requested that he be detained if he was to be released at any time.
Last week, Alvarez release He was released from jail on $500 bail after the Plymouth County Superior Court refused to set bail at $25,000 as requested by prosecutors.
ICE’s detention orders for Alvarez have been ignored, and although the immigrant is monitored by law enforcement on an ankle monitor, his location is not shared with federal immigration authorities due to Massachusetts’ sanctuary state policy.
