An immigrant was stabbed Tuesday night after getting into an argument with a group of men near a shelter in a Manhattan hotel, police and law enforcement officials said.
Authorities said the 42-year-old man was stabbed in the left hip with a knife around 6 p.m. outside 713 Eighth Avenue, just around the corner from the Row New York Hotel, which became a shelter for immigrants during the immigration crisis. It is said that
According to police and officials, the victim, a resident of the shelter, was arguing with a group when the suspect pulled out a cutting tool and attacked him.
Police said the suspect, wearing all black, fled the scene and the victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition.
Officials said it was not immediately clear whether the stabbing suspect was also an immigrant.
Officials say the victim is not cooperating with the investigation.
The Row NYC, once a luxury hotel, was turned into an immigrant shelter in 2022 as the Big Apple struggles with the massive influx of asylum seekers into the Empire State.
