Migrant suspected of double homicide used CBP’s app to gain entry into US

The Haitian immigrant suspected of killing two men in New York had previously used U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s CBP One app to enter the country. fox news digital report.

Kenol Baptiste, 30, was arrested by Middletown police on April 1 and charged with second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Baptiste allegedly fatally stabbed his two male roommates. One of the victims died at the scene. The other victim suffered multiple stab wounds and was taken to Garnett Health Medical Center, where he died from his injuries during surgery.

Fox News Digital reported that the suspect lived at the same address as the victims and that the three were acquaintances. Both victims were also Haitian nationals. Their names have not been released.

Police located Baptiste in a wooded area near the apartment shortly after the incident. Authorities have not revealed a possible motive behind the killing.

Middletown Police Chief John Ewanciu said. midhudson news“Following up with community members revealed that this group of individuals moved there approximately one year ago.”

Ewanciu said Baptiste entered the United States about eight months ago.

“The fingerprints showed that the suspect came to the United States about eight months ago,” he told Mid-Hudson News. “We are trying to track when, where and how.”

Orange County Executive Stephen Neuhaus called the killing a “failure at every level of the federal government” and noted that Baptiste is awaiting a federal deportation hearing. news 12 report.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement told Fox News Digital that Baptiste used the CBP One app to book an appointment for July 25 at a port of entry. He was cited, processed, and notified to be released inland pending deportation proceedings.

After the killing, ICE issued a detention request. Once he is released from prison, he will be transferred to federal immigration detention.

Since 2023, the expanded CBP One app under the Biden administration has enabled 547,000 individuals to book appointments at ports of entry.
