A Massachusetts couple who volunteered their home as a shelter for illegal immigrants were surprised to find an immigrant family at their door within an hour.

The family of four was immediately assigned to Stokes “in less than an hour,” the newspaper said.
“I thought, ‘I have to put sheets on the bed.’ How many people are coming? Where are they from? How old are they? We really didn’t know anything,” Jessica said. .
“The need is clearly overwhelming,” her husband Colin added.
The new arrivals, a couple and two children, had traveled from Chile to Texas and then headed to the sanctuary city of Boston, where they were among those sleeping at the airport.

According to Colin, it’s mind-boggling that there are “hundreds of stories like that, people going through such stressful, traumatic changes.”
“The family is lovely. They’re so grateful. It’s been amazing,” Jessica said, adding that it was “incredible to see on the front lines” and how many immigrants are in need. He added that it was “heartbreaking” to witness this.
Two young children are waiting to enroll in school while their parents are waiting for work permit documents.
The latest batch of new arrivals follows Gov. Maura Healey (D). declared emergency in August after the state’s shelters reached capacity with more than 20,000 migrants.
Boston City Councilwoman Julia Mejia (D) caused a stir when she called on nearby towns, including Brookline, where the Stokes are based, to accept more illegal immigrants.
“Everyone needs to start opening their doors. This is a shared responsibility,” she said.

Progressive politicians are also espousing similar sentiments across the country, with Democratic Mayor Mike Johnston calling for voters to make a “common sacrifice” rather than curb tens of thousands of illegal immigrants. announced that it would cut city services.
At a Feb. 9 press conference, Johnston blamed Republicans for the immigration chaos, even though Denver is a sanctuary city controlled by Democrats.
