Knicks Kick Off Playoff Journey with Team Discussions
It’s not uncommon to voice frustrations around the holidays, and the Knicks have embraced that tradition as they began their playoff run.
Head coach Mike Brown held individual meetings with key players—Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, OG Anunoby, Mikal Bridges, and Josh Hart—before everyone gathered to air their grievances prior to the postseason.
These discussions aimed to resolve any lingering issues among the players. Brunson’s father, Rick, who also serves as an assistant coach, mentioned to reporters that these meetings were essential for the Knicks’ playoff success.
After trailing 2-1 against the Hawks in the first round, the Knicks surged back, winning 13 consecutive games en route to their first NBA championship in over five decades, ultimately defeating the Spurs 94-90 in Game 5 to secure a 4-1 Finals victory.
Jalen Brunson emerged as the NBA Finals MVP, delivering an impressive performance with 45 points on 13-of-15 shooting and 14-of-27 from the field during critical moments of the series.
In his inaugural season with the team, Brown set clear expectations by requiring commitments from everyone involved. He remarked on this foundational moment, noting that the original contract signed during the opening dinner is still framed as a reminder of their dedication.
“This was our commitment to sacrifice and to hold each other accountable,” Brown commented. “I made it clear that if someone isn’t willing to uphold this agreement, it’s better not to sign at all. We all bought into it from day one, reflecting the strength of each individual as well as the team’s leaders, especially Jalen Brunson.”
