House Speaker Mike Johnson has reportedly apologized for rolling his eyes at President Joe Biden’s angry State of the Union address in March.
When contacted by Breitbart News for comment, Johnson’s office did not deny the apology.
The apology is the latest revelation that suggests Mr. Johnson’s sympathies lie with the establishment and Washington, D.C., elites, rather than with the voters who elected him to Congress or the Republican conference.
Just last week, Biden cornered Johnson by allowing Democrats to effectively take control of the House of Representatives, thereby allowing Biden’s policies to pass Congress. It was a stark reminder of how often Republicans refuse to use their abilities to advance conservative policies that are popular with their base. In contrast, Democrats often appear Use your power without hesitation.
In March, Mr Johnson felt he owed Mr Biden an apology. The speaker, who sat directly over the president’s shoulders during the State of the Union address, couldn’t hide his tiredness and exasperation at Biden’s attacks on the Republican Party. The two then met for a Friends of Ireland luncheon at Parliament House, where Mr Johnson praised Mr Biden as “the most famous Irishman in America”. His pint glass, on loan from the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, was the same one Reagan used during his 1984 visit to Ireland. The Guinness the Southern Baptist speaker drank was non-alcoholic.
Johnson pulled Biden aside and apologized for the spectacular meme that went viral around the world. The president laughed and told the speaker that Johnson had behaved better than Nancy Pelosi during his predecessor’s speech, adding, “I appreciate you not ruining my speech.” Ta. The speaker replied, “Well, Mr. President, I don’t think his friends back home would have wanted me to light the fire.”
