Mike Johnson Plots Revenge and Retaliation Against Republicans Who Vote Against the Democrat Agenda

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) said he supports retaliation against Republican lawmakers who oppose him. reportedly He told big-ticket donors at the swanky Four Seasons in Washington.

At a fundraiser on Sunday, Prime Minister Boris Johnson signaled to the powerful group that he would support kicking MPs from committees who have blocked the Coalition’s legislative agenda. He also said he was in favor of changing the rules of the House of Commons, including the rules regarding motions to leave, at the end of this session.

His remarks come in the same procedural motion that Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) used this week to oust Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) from the speakership in October. The meeting was held as preparations were underway to begin voting on a motion to vacate the chair. last year.

Greene announced that she would push for a vote after what Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) called Johnson’s “triple betrayals.” Specifically, Prime Minister Johnson finished the work that had been done to pass each of 12 separate spending bills and, with overwhelming support from Democrats, reauthorized the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA). A two-part omnibus bill was passed with a forced vote. He has invoked warrant requests for espionage against Americans and implemented a plan to cancel tens of billions of dollars in aid to Ukraine, even though he promised not to do so without addressing the border crisis.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) went so far as to argue that he, not Johnson, controls the House’s agenda.

Greene responded Monday to a report in Punchbowl News that the problem within the House Republican conference lies with Johnson himself.

“Chairman Mike Johnson is talking about kicking Republicans out of committees if we vote against his rules and bills,” she said. said on X. “This is what happened after he granted Chuck Schumer and Biden’s every wish and passed major legislation with the Democrats, not the Republican majority!”

“It’s not us who are out of line, it’s our Republican elected chair!!”

Conservative Sens. Chip Roy (R-Texas), Ralph Norman (R-S.C.), and Massey will be released in January 2023 as part of McCarthy’s gavel-won concessions to conservatives. He was appointed to the powerful House Rules Committee. This shadow committee, long known as the Speaker’s Committee because of the influence it wields among House members, controls the House’s legislative agenda through so-called rules.

Voting on rules in committee is usually little more than a rubber stamp for the chair. But the three conservative lawmakers changed the balance of power on the nine-member majority-member and four-minority committee, allowing the chair to consider conservative concerns before pushing the bill to a vote. To make sure you can block the bill.

Mr. Johnson made history by working with Democrats to bring the bill to the floor over the objections of the party’s conservative wing.

The House would also have to vote to pass the rules on the floor before voting on the underlying bill. As with the Rules Committee, it is very rare for a minority party to vote on rules determined by the majority.

However, Prime Minister Johnson resorted to passing the bill in the House of Representatives under Democratic Party rules, effectively forming a coalition government with the Democratic Party.

Mr. Greene’s vote is likely to go to Mr. Johnson, and Mr. Jeffries and other Democratic leaders have vowed to save Mr. Johnson by bringing the motion forward. If Mr. Greene continues to force a second or more vote, all bets are off.
