Mike Rogers warns that El-Sayed may alienate Black and Jewish voters in Michigan.

Republicans presented their viewpoints to Michigan voters during a Fox News town hall on Monday night, where GOP Senate nominee Mike Rogers asserted that Democrat Abdul El-Sayed may face challenges among Black and Jewish voters as the Senate race intensifies in its final weeks.

Fox News host Sean Hannity also spoke with Republican gubernatorial candidate Rep. John James and House GOP Conference Chair Lisa McClain from Michigan, highlighting their attempts to connect local Democrats to issues of government spending, socialism, and the party’s more progressive faction in the lead-up to the November 3 election.

Rogers contended early in the evening that El-Sayed might not perform well among some critical demographics that usually lean Democratic, suggesting potential opportunities for Republicans.

Casting doubt on El-Sayed’s grip on Black voters in Michigan

Hannity questioned Rogers about El-Sayed’s previous criticism of former President Barack Obama, whom El-Sayed labeled as “not the right choice” for promoting a progressive agenda after Obama’s re-election in 2012.

“He is dismissive in Detroit. We’ve talked to numerous Black pastors and neighborhood leaders in the city who are seeking change,” Rogers mentioned.

Interestingly, Obama is set to campaign with El-Sayed in Detroit on October 24 and has released a video encouraging voters to support him.

Unique opportunity for Republicans amid alienated Jewish voters

Rogers emphasized that the Jewish community could offer a distinct chance for Republicans, particularly in light of El-Sayed’s stance on Israel.

El-Sayed recently avoided declaring whether he views Iran or Israel as a greater threat, saying, “I think both of them have proven dangerous in their own way… One is a risk to us, and the other can lead us into unnecessary wars.”

Rogers noted that if just half of Jewish Democratic voters in Michigan felt disillusioned enough by El-Sayed’s comments to back his campaign, it could significantly bolster Republican support.

“There are about 70,000 Jewish Democrats. If we get half of them to swing our way… we had a recent event with over 1,000 people. Many of them are concerned for their children, and they’re with us,” he added. “We believe we can attract 35,000 votes from this demographic, which typically supports Democrats.”

“That’s changing the dynamic,” Rogers continued.

Gubernatorial hopeful promises to target fraud, trim fat on Democrat-led spending

Rep. John James, the Republican gubernatorial candidate, also appeared alongside Hannity, discussing his plans if elected.

James promised to enhance scrutiny of government spending and reshape educational policies, asserting, “Michigan is currently spending 50% more than it did under last Republican Governor Rick Snyder, and $20 billion more annually than during the pandemic peak.”

“Michigan’s issue isn’t taxes; it’s spending,” he further remarked.

He drew parallels to potential fraud in Michigan by referencing investigations in Minnesota, stating, “If a 19-year-old journalist named Nick Shirley can uncover fraud worth $9 billion there, think of what could be found here in Michigan,” referring to a videographer famous for investigating fraudulent schemes.

It’s worth noting that Shirley garnered attention for his investigations, although he didn’t specifically find $9 billion in fraud. That figure derives from estimates regarding suspicious Medicaid claims in Minnesota, which officials have contested.

Top House Republican accuses Democrats of concealing ‘Communist’ agenda

At the conclusion of the town hall, Rep. Lisa McClain, the House GOP conference chair, accused Democrats of concealing their true intentions.

“I don’t even call them Democrats anymore; it’s the Communist Party,” she stated. “They want to pack the Supreme Court, abolish the police, and release people from prison.”

Now that primaries are behind, Michigan voters will head to the polls on November 3 alongside the rest of the nation.
