Military Credit Unions Criticize Shutdown Before Pay Halt for Active Duty Personnel

A credit union representing U.S. military members has raised concerns about the effects of a Democratic government shutdown, stating that troops shouldn’t have to stress over their next paycheck while they serve the country.

The Defense Credit Union Council (DCUC), which includes over 180 credit unions with more than 40 million members, emphasized that the shutdown significantly affects military readiness, as active duty personnel are set to face payment interruptions next week, according to Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR).

“Shutdowns don’t just affect budgets; they disrupt lives,” said Jason Stoverack, DCUC’s Chief Advocacy Officer. “Our servicemen and women shouldn’t worry about their paychecks while they’re safeguarding our nation.”

Stoverack further remarked, “We’re here to support them, but Congress needs to resolve this situation and get the government back to work.”

As the pay period ending October 15 approaches for active service members, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and other Democrats have led the charge, resulting in a shutdown that has now lasted a week.

“Chuck Schumer seems more concerned about staying in the good graces of his party than about supporting our troops and ensuring they receive their pay on time,” said the Chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee. “Schumer and the Democrats need to put an end to this shutdown quickly.”

A Senate source also mentioned to Breitbart News that the shutdown poses a “stigma” for service members, with President Trump, Republicans, and the military credit union doing their best to assist.

“It’s troubling that Democrats would risk the well-being of our soldiers to push a far-left agenda. President Trump, his administration, the Defense Credit Union, and GOP members are doing everything they can. But it’s up to the Democrats to take action,” the source stated.
