WASHINGTON, DC — The Department of Defense announced that it will provide military airlift support to assist DHS in the deportation of detained illegal aliens. The U.S. Air Force will provide four aircraft to remove up to 5,000 foreign nationals currently in U.S. Customs and Border Protection custody.
On Wednesday, the Pentagon ordered at least 1,500 active-duty military personnel to the U.S. southern border, Breitbart Texas reported. The deployment supports an executive order signed by President Donald Trump on Monday.
“There is currently a national emergency along the United States' southern border. Unchecked mass illegal immigration and the unhindered flow of opiates across the border continue to jeopardize the safety and security of Americans and “The United States is promoting illegal activities that are illegal,'' the president wrote. “Through this order, I am acting in accordance with my solemn duty to protect and defend the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the United States along our borders.”
In a Wednesday announcement from the Pentagon, a senior military official said: [active-duty personnel] Provides real-time situational awareness of people, vehicles, ships, and aircraft. and they will cooperate [U.S. Customs and Border Protection] About operator-level maintenance, movement, and staging [CBP] assets.
Acting Secretary of Defense Robert Saleses said the Pentagon is “providing airlift support to flights operated by DHS to carry out the deportation of more than 5,000 people held by CBP in the San Diego-El Paso, Texas, border area.” I will,” he added.
A senior military official said USTRANSCOM will provide two C-130 Hercules and two C-17 Globemaster aircraft to assist in that support.
In addition to airlift support, the Army already conducts border patrol missions aboard UH-72 Lakota helicopters in support of CBP and border patrol missions.
“We also anticipate there may be additional airborne intelligence, surveillance and support assets traveling to the border to increase situational awareness,” the official added.
