Milwaukee bus driver hit an elderly man while dozing off at the wheel on Christmas Day

Tragic Incident Involving Milwaukee Bus Driver

A bus driver in Milwaukee fell asleep while driving, leading to a fatal accident on Christmas Day. The incident resulted in the death of 79-year-old Robert Clemons, who was struck and dragged for a block while working on a truck with his grandson.

Montrell Farm, 53, received a two-year prison sentence after prosecutors presented video evidence during a court hearing. The footage showed Farm dozing off at the wheel and crashing the bus into parked cars around 11 p.m. on December 25, 2024.

The video revealed that both Clemons and his grandson were hit as they repaired the vehicle on the roadside. Clemons was pulled under the bus, and his grandson attempted to chase the vehicle but sustained injuries, including a broken arm and leg, making it impossible for him to reach the bus in time.

Another passerby alerted Farm, compelling him to stop about a block away. When officers arrived, they discovered a blood trail leading from the scene of the accident.

According to the police report, there was visible damage to the bus, including a shattered passenger side windshield. Paramedics found Clemons trapped beneath the bus, where he was later pronounced dead.

Footage from inside the bus indicated that Farm was either sleeping or had his eyes closed while driving. He later told authorities that he had been working long hours leading up to the accident and had only managed a few hours of sleep the night before.

Farm claimed he was attentive to the road until he felt a sudden impact. On January 20, he pleaded no contest to charges of negligent vehicle operation resulting in homicide and reckless driving causing significant injury.

Following his sentencing, Farm will also serve an additional three years of extended supervision after his prison term. In a statement addressed to Clemons’ family, he expressed sorrow: “There are not enough words to begin to heal your pain. Please pray and ask for forgiveness. This was an accident.”
