Minnesota man, Kirk Edward Hazlett III, executes father inside hunting cabin

A Minnesota man was on a “mission” when he broke into an elderly man's hunting cabin in the countryside, shot his father multiple times before fleeing, and then executed him in front of his relatives.

Kirk Edward Haslett III fired nine shots, including one in the head, at his father, Kirk Edward Haslett II, 64, in his living room on Nov. 15 in Pine County. It is said that he died by forming a pool of blood on the floor. According to police records obtained by North Pine County News.

Around 8:40 p.m., the suspect was seen on a tracking camera walking toward the family's hunting lodge with a handgun, and the victim's younger brother noticed the commotion and ran to the bedroom. He was filmed going to retrieve a gun.

According to a criminal complaint seen by the outlet, Hazlett III entered the cabin through a side door and shot his father at least three times.

Hazlett III and his father had not gotten along “for some time” because the suspected killer “did not have a good relationship with his family,” the report added.

Hazlett III, now facing two other relatives, reportedly ordered them to sit on a couch as they pleaded for his life.

Hazlett III turned and shot his father in the head “execution style” to “make sure he was dead,” the Kansas City Star reported.

Hazlett III ordered the two relatives to hand over the phones before letting them leave the cabin.

The freed relatives rushed to a neighbor's house, where police were called.

Instead of going into hiding, Hazlett III returned to his home in Cambridge, about 8 miles from the cabin, where he called the Isanti County Sheriff's Office out of concern for his girlfriend.

Hazlett III was arrested at his home and charged with second-degree murder, robbery and kidnapping.

He is being held at the Pine County Sheriff's Office on a $3 million bond, according to jail records reviewed by the newspaper.

In October, police were called to the cabin in reference to a disturbance between Haslett III and his father.
