His luck went overboard.
A Minnesota man was slapped on an eye-opening $47,000 medical bill on a week-long free cruise vacation to the Caribbean for him and his girlfriend.
Mike Cameron and his girlfriend Tamura Masterman won a free Norway cruise trip that sailed from Miami on January 5th. According to Fox 9.
But when Cameron, Braham, Minnesota, fell into the flu, what began as a dream trip to a tropical destination was immediately surprised.
The sick passengers sought treatment at a medical centre mounted on a Norwegian Encore ship and recovered three days later.
When the couple's Caribbean tour ended, Cameron was shocked to learn he was stuck on a nearly $50,000 medical bill.
“Looking back at the day we leave, I will be handed a $47,000 bill.
Cameron said the bill came as a shock as he assured the crew not to worry when they were treated.
“Everyone in the medical ward kept saying, 'Don't worry about having $20,000 in compensation, you're fine.' ”
Cruiseline makes the most of the two credit cards Cameron posted on the file, and he still owes $21,000, the station reported.
“You said, 'Are you going to lose your home, are you going to lose your car?” Masterman added.
The couple had bought travel insurance from a cruise line with health insurance covering costs up to $20,000, but Cameron was stuck in a holding pattern, claiming the other was liable for the bill. It's there.
“Traveler insurance doesn't want to pay it until we run it with health insurance. Health insurance is overseas so we don't want to pay it,” explained Masterman.
Confined to Limbo, Cameron doesn't know how he can afford a sudden bill.
“I don't know how I'm not going to pay back myself, but I'm sure I'll need it, but I don't know how,” he told Fox9.
The couple said the bill came with a letter from Norway stating that its pricing was “something that it is “closely comparable to other cruise lines, and that it is fair and reasonable.” .
A Cruise Line spokesman did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
