Minnesota teacher, 24, accused of criminal sexual conduct with student in classroom

The latest alleged teacher sex scandal involves a 24-year-old teacher from Minnesota who is reportedly “on the run.” A nationwide warrant has been issued against a former teacher accused of engaging in criminal sexual conduct with an underage student in a middle school classroom.

Caitlin K. Tao of St. Paul was recently charged in Ramsey County District Court with third-degree criminal sexual conduct. Mr. Tao could face up to 15 years in prison and a fine of up to $30,000.

A nationwide warrant has been issued for Tao’s arrest, according to . star tribune.

The child sex offense charges reportedly involve a 17-year-old student and occurred earlier this year when Mr. Thao was a substitute teacher at St. Paul City Schools.

The teenage victim reported to police in March that she had had a sexual relationship with a teacher at the charter school more than a month earlier, according to court documents. The underage student claimed that the couple had sex in an empty classroom at the junior high school where Tao taught.

According to the criminal complaint, the girl told authorities that Tao had invited her to his home, but she declined.

Mr. Tao is said to have resigned from his teaching position at the end of February.

According to court documents, the former substitute teacher confessed to the criminal sexual acts to a social worker while receiving treatment at Regions Hospital’s mental health unit.

Eric Fagen, interim executive director of the University Avenue West charter school, said Friday that Tao “has not worked with us for quite a few months.”

Felgen did not provide further details about the child sexual abuse allegations.

On Friday, Felgen sent a letter to the student’s family and staff clarifying the charges and explaining that the alleged trespassing occurred in an empty classroom after school.
