In announcing her resignation, the Miss USA titleholder said she was relinquishing the title due to her “mental and physical health.”
Noelia Vogt, who became the first Venezuelan-American to win the Miss USA pageant last September, admitted: Instagram post News of her resignation “may come as a huge shock to many” on Monday.
“In life, I strongly value the importance of making decisions that I think are best for me and my mental health,” Vogt, 24, said.
Voigt, a former Miss Utah USA titleholder, said she considered her time as a pageant winner “incredibly rewarding,” but added, “Unfortunately, I will not be competing as Miss USA in 2023. I have made the very difficult decision to decline the title.”
The anti-bullying activist did not elaborate on why, but expressed gratitude for the platform given to her “to make a difference.”
Representatives for the Miss USA pageant did not immediately respond to ITK’s request for comment.
The pageant was first held in 1952 and celebrates “beauty, intelligence and empowerment,” according to its website. Former President Trump owned the competition from 1996 to 2015 before entering politics.
“Deep down, I know this is just the beginning of a new chapter for me,” Vogt said of the move. Use your voice and don’t be afraid of the future, even if it feels uncertain. ”
