Mitch McConnell blasts Trump’s pursuit of ‘illusory peace’ with Russia: ‘Shreds America’s credibility’

WASHINGTON – Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has accused President Trump of seeking “fantastic peace” with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

McConnell, 83, accused Trump's adviser of “not being prepared to summon resources and the will of the people” to stop the US enemy, and accused him of moving the people to a headline that read, “Russia wins, America loses.”

Kentucky also said it would “shredd the credibility of America, threaten Ukraine, weaken alliances and spark enemy” to end the three-year war to date.

“Peace is a noble goal, and few deserve it more than the Ukrainian people. Ukrainians feel the absence of peace most visceral when they stand in the tile ble of their homes, schools and churches,” he continued. “And some will never come back when they say goodbye to their front-line children and parents.”

“If there are people who willing to receive them in their words when they say they want peace, then it's people who have had peace that was stolen from them,” he added. “Kremlin Total Carlian – a country that has been led by its unique identity of starving, conquering, and trying to destroy it again and again.”

Trump, 78, and Vice President JD Vance, 40, headed out to Ukrainian President Voldy Mirzelensky at the Oval Office Meeting on February 28th to silence plans for an economic deal where the United States will jointly invest in Kiev's rare earth minerals.

Zelensky locked up what the Ukrainians had suggested in Vance, a toothless diplomatic approach to Russian attacks, assaulting Trump saying “You're gambling with World War II.”

After a set break in the US-Crane relationship, the president temporarily halted sharing of critical intelligence with Kyiv and halted military aid.

US Special Envoy Steve Witkov then flew twice to Moscow to meet with Putin, striving to reach a ceasefire without reaching an agreement for either time.

In his remarks on Thursday, McConnell knocked Trump — for fallout from stalled negotiations without directly naming him or his advisor.

“When American officials sacrifice their allies to court the bounties of their enemies… when they ock laugh at our friends to impress their enemies… they reveal their embarrassing naiveness,” he said.

“To cut off Ukraine is to stab us in the back, as well as slandering allies who fought with us and died,” he added. “Americans must be dangerous ally, the kind that the enemy of democracy, sovereignty, free commerce will not dare to doubt our commitment or resolve.

“We have a long way ahead, but I'm proud to share it with you all.”

The US-Ukraine Foundation said on its web page that the award given to McConnell is aimed at members of the parliament “in solidarity with the people of Ukrainians.”

When he announced his decision to resign at the end of his current term in January 2027, McConnell suggested he would “attend an unfinished business,” a stubborn supporter of Kiev's war effort and remains a robust American military presence on the global stage.

“All debates about agriculture, infrastructure, education and taxes are downstream of the national security obligation,” he said last month. “All issues with policy at home are subject to the obligation to provide a common defense.”

“Thanks to Ronald Reagan's determination, when I arrived in the Senate, the work to strengthen America's hard power was on track,” McConnell added.

“But ever since, we have allowed it to atrophy, and today a dangerous world threatens to outweigh the work of rebuilding it.”

McConnell rose to their posts in a majority vote from Trump's three Cabinet officers (Tarsi Gabbard, Director of National Intelligence Affairs), Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegses – other Republicans.
