Knicks Experience Changes After Championship Win
The New York Knicks, fresh off their championship win—their first in 53 years—are beginning to reshape their roster. Jose Alvarado is staying put, but the initial change was the departure of defensive player Mitchell Robinson, who signed a three-year contract with the Boston Celtics.
Robinson’s exit stirred emotions among his former teammates, including comments on social media from Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart, and OG Anunoby. Interestingly, Robinson’s response to Anunoby hinted at deeper sentiments. Anunoby shared a sad emoji and suggested that Robinson “tried” to reconnect with the Knicks, indicating a lack of mutual interest.
In response, Robinson expressed regret, saying, “Brother, I never wanted this to happen. I hope someday the truth comes out. I will miss you! Stay strong.”
In a related note, Knicks owner James Dolan made waves right after the title win by stating he had no desire to go back on the NBA payroll, labeling it “suicidal.”
This shift in the team’s dynamics was enough to signal to fans that roster changes were imminent. Brunson, in particular, seems set on proving himself after he took a significant pay cut to help secure the championship.
During last month’s finals against the San Antonio Spurs, Robinson nearly secured victory for the Knicks, but he missed a critical free throw, although he did grab the essential final offensive rebound.
Looking back, Robinson’s journey with the Knicks has had its ups and downs. He was a second-round draft pick in 2018, and his inaugural season was tough—the team finished 17-65.
As Robinson transitions to a rebuilding Celtics team, it’s clear the Knicks are preparing for the next chapter after their recent success.
