MN Man Burned When Heated Insoles from China Explode in Boot

A man from Trimont, Minn., suffered serious injuries. I was injured when his rechargeable heated insoles exploded inside his boots.

Michaela Morris share Images of her husband Tyler's injured leg surfaced online Friday, prompting people to avoid purchasing rechargeable heated apparel products, KENS 5 reported Monday.

Michaela said her insoles weren't on when the incident happened, so she took her to the emergency room to see a doctor. Doctors then contacted the Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC) burn center regarding the incident.

“The ER doctor explained that it was a second-degree burn and that Ho Chi Minh City would probably want to see him, so I made an appointment in Ho Chi Minh City and headed there this morning. It turned out to be 2nd degree burns, possibly 3rd degree burns,” she wrote.

“Now begins the process of hoping and praying that his body will do what it needs to heal properly. I'm doing this to say, 'Never buy anything that comes from China!' I'm just writing. ” she added.

Tyler bought insoles from Amazon in 2023 for outdoor activities. The insoles were sold by a China-based company known as iHeat. However, the KENS article states that this product is no longer available on the site.

When Breitbart News searched for “heated apparel” on Amazon on Tuesday, we found Found There are many items such as heated jackets, vests, and scarves.

The insoles weren't working well when Tyler was using them on Thursday, but he continued to wear them while preparing to set up the fish house on the lake. However, I started to feel a stinging sensation in my heel. “Then it started getting really, really hot and I started freaking out, and there was just white smoke coming out of my boots,” he recalled.

When he took off his boots, the insoles were falling apart. Tyler said her doctor told her she was the third victim of the same problem in the past week.

Now, Tyler may need skin grafts to repair his injuries. The couple is warning others to avoid these products for their own safety.
